MAYWOOD (CBSLA.com) —A kidnapping and car theft suspect who escaped from custody in Malibu Monday was captured in Maywood Tuesday afternoon.

32-year-old Jaci Barragon was arrested around 5:30 p.m. after he spent hours barricaded inside a home near 60th Street and Atlantic Boulevard.

Authorities were forced to fire tear gas to get the suspect out of the residence.

St. Rose of Lima Catholic School was locked down while the search for Barragon was underway.

The suspect allegedly stole a car from Huntington Park and kidnapped and sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend.

Deputies tried to arrest Barragon around 1 a.m. Monday in Malibu, where they found the stolen car, but he managed to get away when partially handcuffed.

A sheriff’s deputy was injured during the altercation.
