Inmate Dies At Men's Central Jail

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Monday were investigating the death of an inmate at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The death of the inmate, whose name was not released, was reported at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Deputy Mark Pope said.

When deputies arrived, the victim was "transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead," Pope said.

It is unknown what the man was incarcerated for or how he died.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death.

No additional information was released.
