Ex-Cudahy Mayor Sentenced To A Year In Prison In Bribery Case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The former mayor of Cudahy has been sentenced to a year in prison for his role in taking cash bribes from a businessman who wanted to open a medical marijuana dispensary.

A federal judge sentenced 62-year-old David Silva on Monday after the former elected official pleaded guilty to one count each of extortion and bribery.

Silva, along with two other former city officials, received bribes that were paid in exchange for supporting the opening of a pot dispensary. Silva admitted he accepted a $5,000 bribe.

Former city manager Angel Perales was recently sentenced to five years' probation for brokering the bribery scheme.

Ex-councilman Osvaldo Conde is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 25.
