Josh Rubenstein's Weather Forecast (Jan. 23)

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — An interesting pattern is setting up in Southern California.

A large plume of moisture has surged and moved into the area. The extensive cloud cover along with a cooler air mass will bring our temperatures down.

The possibility and timing of rainfall has been bumped up a bit. Now it looks like we will see our first chance of showers Thursday.

The atmosphere is very dry...so we have a ways to go before it is moistened up enough to give us measurable rainfall. However, I would say there is a good chance at getting some light rain tomorrow.

The cut-off low that is developing off-shore right now...will push inland. There will be a break in between systems...probably Saturday. Then Sunday into the beginning of next week another trough moves in behind the low and we have a chance for more rain.

However, the forecast models are being very finicky. They have flip-flopped several times in the last day...so it's hard to put a lot of confidence in the long range outlook. Basically expect the possibility of rain into the weekend and beginning of next week. You will definitely notice the cooler weather as we make our way into the weekend

Coast-low 70s
Basin-mid 70
Valleys-low 70s
Mountains-mid 50s
Deserts-mid 60s
