DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An overturned big rig on the westbound 10 Freeway has snarled traffic for miles in Downtown L.A.

The vehicle was carrying pipes, which spilled all over the 10 Freeway connector to the 101, Sky9′s Stu Mundel reported.

The accident was reported shortly after 7 p.m. near the Mission Road exit.

Firefighters worked to free the big rig driver, who became trapped inside the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Several lanes of the 10 Freeway were closed as crews worked to clean up the mess.
