VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Police say a woman in a motorized wheelchair has died after being struck by a car in an unmarked crosswalk in Van Nuys.

The accident occurred about 5:50 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Haynes Street.

First responders found the woman unconscious and lying on the ground. She was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A news release issued by the Los Angeles Police Department identified the driver as 50-year-old Los Angeles man.

According to authorities, he stopped to assist the woman after the crash and remained at the scene.
