Riverside Police Announce Arrest Of 3 Suspects In Armed Robberies Near UCR

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Police in Riverside have announced the arrest of three suspects wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies Wednesday near the campus of UC Riverside.

Police on Wednesday responded to five separate armed robberies that occurred in the span of one hour.

The crime spree started just after 8 p.m. In each case, the victim was approached by 1-3 males who brandished a weapon before demanding money or property.

According to police, the subjects in each case were described as black males in their 20s. Witnesses said the men fled in a silver or gray colored 4-door Honda with a partial plate of 3CPD.

The following evening, a sixth robbery was reported in the same vicinity. A similar suspect and vehicle description was also given in that crime, said authorities.

The vehicle was traced to Xavier Vining, a 20-year-old Moreno Valley man. He was arrested on robbery charges and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.

Riverside Police and UCR Police went to Fontana Friday and interviewed Doneal Lewis Cephus, 18, of Moreno Valley. Cephus -- already wanted in connection with a string of robberies in San Bernardino County -- was a "person of interest" in the UCR crimes. He was arrested and booked into San Bernardino County Jail. Officials said charges are pending against Cephus in Riverside County for the UCR robberies.

Police arrested a third suspect Saturday. Markeith Shavers, 19, of Moreno Valley was interviewed and then booked into the Presley Detention Center.

Riverside Police said there are no additional suspects at this time.

If anyone has any info regarding these incidents, they are asked to contact Detective Rick Cobb at (951) 353-7135 or Detective Rick Wheeler at (951) 353-7134.
