LA County Sheriff's Department's 'Gifts For Guns' Program Set For Monday
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will hold its annual "Gifts for Guns" program on Monday, Jan. 21.
The program, which began in 2005, allows residents to safely and anonymously surrender any firearm to the Sheriff's Department in exchange for a gift card, authorities said.
Gift cards range from $200 for assault weapons to $100 for a handgun, rifle, or shotgun and $50 for a non-operational firearm. They are redeemable at Target or Ralphs stores.
Gun owners can turn in their weapons from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday in the parking lot of the Ralph's store located at 280 East Compton Blvd. in Compton.
More than 2,000 firearms were surrendered in December during the Gun Buyback program, a similar event held by the city of Los Angeles and the LAPD.
