Parents Charged After 7-Year-Old Daughter Eats Meth

JOSHUA TREE (CBSLA.com) — A Joshua Tree couple was charged with child endangerment after their 7-year-old daughter ingested methamphetamine last week.

Michelle Beamer, 30, and Johnnie Koranda, 32, pleaded not guilty to the felony charges in court Tuesday and were held on $100,000 bail.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said the unidentified girl was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center on Friday with seizures, a high fever and an elevated heart rate, among other symptoms.

The victim tested positive for meth, which authorities said the child mistook for candy at the family's Joshua Tree home.

The 7-year-old was airlifted to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital in critical condition.

A family member told KCAL9's Greg Mills the youngster is recovering.

The parents' three other kids were taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
