RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A hit-and-run driver reportedly struck and badly injured a Caltrans worker on the 91 Freeway in Riverside Monday night.

The collision occurred near the 14th Street off-ramp, according to Sky9′s Stu Mundel.

Enrique Lopez Lopez, 32, of Moreno Valley was apprehended by California Highway Patrol officers a short distance away and placed under arrest. His vehicle showed signs of significant damage. Authorities suspect the driver was under the influence.

The Caltrans worker was transported to a hospital with “major, life-threatening injuries,” Mundel reported.
