SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A 75-year-old father of ten was fatally struck Thursday morning in an apparent hit-and-run accident on a Santa Ana street.
Miguel Chavez Ceja was walking near Stanford Street and Orange Avenue at 6:40 a.m. when he was struck by a dark blue 1995 BMW 740iL, Santa Ana police said.
Ceja was declared dead at the scene, according to authorities.
“Please come forward. I know it’s kinda hard. He didn’t deserve to die that way. He could of stopped and tried to help him out or something,” Ceja’s son-in-law Pablo Hernandez said.
Ceja had been visiting family from Mexico. He was scheduled to fly back in February.
Police are searching for the vehicle, which is missing a side mirror.
“We don’t’ know if the damage should be on the left side or the right side. There should be moderate damage to the front end,” Santa Ana Police spokesperson Anthony Bertagna said. “This is the time when people drive to work. Obviously this is close to a major intersection . People are always in a hurry, they’re drinking coffee, putting their make up on, doing whatever they are doing and not paying attention to what they should be doing and that’s the driving.”
Ceja recently celebrated his 50th anniversary with his wife.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Ana Police Dept.
