Corona Teacher's Aide Arrested On Child Sex Assault Charges

CORONA (CBSLA.com) — A Riverside County teacher's aide is being held on $1 million bail after he was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student.

Steven Martinez, 22, was arrested this week after the girl's parents contacted the Corona Police Department.

"The parents were concerned about inappropriate text messages their daughter had received from an adult male," said Senior Det. Andy Bryant.

Martinez, of Norco, was working at Garretson Elementary School in the Corona Norco Unified School District when he befriended the girl. She was 11-years-old at the time.

"Martinez began inappropriately sending illicit text requests to the female, communicating with her on social media sites, and eventually sexually assaulted the girl," he said.

The Norco resident was also employed as a teacher's aide at Orange Elementary School.

Anyone who believes they may have information regarding this investigation or may have information regarding additional victims, please contact Det. Bryant at (951) 817-5789.
