Man Accused Of Abducting Sister, Driving Her To Northern California To Rape Her

TEMPLE CITY (CBS) — A man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping his biological sister, the Merced County Sheriff's Department announced Monday.

Apolinar Cortez, 48, is accused of abducting the 26-year-old victim at knifepoint in Temple City on Friday.

Cortez and an accomplice, who is still at large, then drove the victim to Cortez's Planada home, a converted shack in the 100 block of Topeka Avenue, officials said.

"The second suspect then left while Cortez had sexual intercourse against the victim's will stating he would kill her unless she did what he said," the Merced County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

The woman was trapped inside the shed until Cortez left to get breakfast on Sunday morning and she was able to make contact with nearby residents, who called authorities.

Cortez was then taken into custody without incident and confessed to the crimes, stating that he was in love with his sister, officials said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the second suspect should call (209)385-7472.

Cortez remains jailed on $1.17 million. He is accused of kidnapping with rape, rape, false imprisonment, and incest.
