ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — Seven people were injured Monday afternoon when a piece of ceiling tile fell on them at a shopping mall in Ontario.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. in the food court of Ontario Mills at 1 Mills Circle.
The shoppers, including a child, were sitting down to eat when the architectural piece came down.
Fire officials reported the victims were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Mall employees told KCAL9’s Stacey Butler that the ceiling panels were new, and the dining area was renovated just two weeks ago.
Two eating areas in the food court have been closed off until further investigation.
In a statement, Ontario Mills General Manager Marc Smith said, “We are thoroughly investigating this matter as we remain committed to the safety of our shoppers, retailers and employees.”
