Inert Military Ordnance Left In Field In City Of Ventura

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities on Sunday reported the discovery of an inert military ordnance in the city of Ventura.

A statement issued by the Ventura Police Department says the device had been left in a field near Henderson and Petit.

It was discovered about 8:58 a.m. Sunday.

The statement says arriving officers secured the area and a bomb squad was dispatched to the scene.

"The bomb squad responded and was able to retrieve and secure the device, which appeared to be inert," according to the statement.

No further information was available.

An investigation is underway.
