San Jacinto Man, 34, Accused Of Mail Theft

SAN JACINTO (CBSLA.com) — A 34-year-old man was arrested Monday and charged with mail theft.

Enrique Mendel, a resident of San Jacinto, was arrested after witnesses said they saw him trying to open car doors around 11:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Evans Street.

After sheriffs came to investigate, Mendel was detained. During questioning, officials said they found property in his car that didn't belong to him.

Riverside County Sheriff Sgt. David Haar said Mendel was "in possession of numerous pieces of stolen mail from several different victims in the area."

Mendel was booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

Haar did not say if the stolen letters were returned or seized as possible evidence.
