87-Year-Old Riverside Resident Killed In Head-On Collision

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say an 87-year-old woman traveling in the rear of a Toyota Prius died following a head-on collision in Riverside.

The accident occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, in the area of Central Avenue and Fairview Avenue in Riverside.

According to authorities and witness accounts, a 2005 Hyundai sedan was traveling west on Central Avenue when it allegedly failed to curve in the roadway and crossed into opposing traffic.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified by authorities as a 23-year-old Riverside woman. According to authorities, the driver lost control and collided with a Prius, which had three people on board.

All three were taken to an area hospital where the elderly woman was pronounced dead. The two others, identified as a male driver and a female passenger, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai was also transported and remains hospitalized.

The identity of those involved has not been released.
