LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 62-year-old man and his two cats were found dead in a late-night house fire in Long Beach.
The fire was reported late Saturday night along the 5200 block of Peabody Street.
CBS2’s Art Barron reports that firefighters were able to knock down the blaze shortly after arriving on the scene. It reportedly started in the dining room area of the home.
“Firefighters arrived. They had heavy smoke and fire showing and they made entry in through the front door, quickly found our victim, they pulled him out,” said Pat Wills, an arson investigator. “He was obviously deceased. There were no live-saving measures made.”
According to Barron, there were no smoke detectors inside the home.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
