Victims Fatally Struck At Riverside Bus Stop Identified

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities on Saturday released the identities of a woman and child who were killed after being struck by a vehicle at a bus bench in Riverside.

Melissa Bernal, 28, of Riverside and 7-year-old Aniya Mitchell of Corona were struck by a vehicle while waiting at a bus bench at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Tyler Street.

According to authorities, both of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred just before 1 p.m. Friday.

The accident also injured a 30-year-old woman from Corona and 31-year-old man from Riverside. They were transported to Riverside Community Hospital with serious injuries.

As of Friday evening, officials reported that both had undergone surgery and were listed in stable but critical condition.

The driver of the sedan was identified by authorities as a 45-year-old resident of Riverside. That person was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being taken to the police station for questioning. No one has been arrested.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
