TORRANCE ( — Authorities Saturday continued to investigate a collision that claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman whose car struck a light pole in Torrance.

The victim was traveling westbound on Lomita Boulevard about 11 p.m. Friday when she veered off the road and crashed into a light pole.

Torrance police Sgt. Chris Kozak said in a department statement that woman — the sole occupant of the vehicle — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
