NUEVO (CBSLA.com) — A three-year-old girl was killed and eight other people injured in a two-vehicle crash in Nuevo, according to authorities.
The Coroner identified the deceased as Kaamorah Latson.
The Riverside County Fire Department said the crash was reported at 11:51 p.m. on Nuevo Road and Rosary Avenue.
A 1991 Chrysler was stopped at a stop sign when it was rear-ended by a 2008 Honda, according to the California Highway Patrol.
In a report, the CHP said the Honda was traveling “an an unsafe speed for prevailing traffic conditions.”
The report also said no one in the Chrysler was wearing a seat belt. The car’s youngest passenger was fatally injured. The driver — a 26-year-old woman — and two 10-year-old girls suffered minor injuries. At least one of the passengers in the Chrysler had to be extricated from the wreckage.
Latson was rushed to Riverside County Regional Medical Center but she succumbed to her injuries a little more than an hour after the accident.
The Honda driver, identified as a 21-year-old woman from nearby Perris, was not arrested. She also had minor injuries.
The CHP said the crash remains under investigation.
