SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Two Santa Susana Elementary School students were suspended Tuesday after bringing airsoft type handguns on a school bus.
Simi Valley Police Department officers responded to a call around 8:15 a.m. after fellow student saw the two children, ages 9 and 10, with the simulated guns and notified school authorities.
Authorities were “able to determine that the children brought the items to school to show each other and no one else,” according to the School Resource Officer. “Further, their actions were in no way related to any threat of violence or any other malicious behavior.”
The two children were counseled and released to their parents after being immediately suspended.
The parents had no knowledge their students brought the guns to school, authorities said.
The Simi Valley Police Department encourages parents to make sure their children are mindful of any item or action that could be construed as threatening, violent or harmful.
