5 Injured In Multi-Car Wreck On 405 Freeway In Inglewood

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Five people were injured, some critically, following a multi-vehicle wreck in Inglewood.

The accident occurred on the southbound 405 Freeway at the 105 Interchange about 2:40 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters used the "Jaws of Life" to extricate two people from the wreckage.

All five were transported to area hospitals where three were listed in critical condition. Two others suffered minor-to-moderate injuries.

The California Highway Patrol tells Art Barron, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, that the driver of an Audi slammed into two vehicles that were parked along the shoulder. That Audi then spun out across all lanes and was struck by other vehicles.

The accident prompted the temporary closure of all southbound lanes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"We do suspect that alcohol might be involved. Several of the drivers had been drinking. That's still under investigation right now. We have officers at local hospitals that are administering sobriety tests and getting chemical tests to determine that right now," said Sgt. Tom Webster.
