CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Chivas USA hired Jose Luis Sanchez Sola of Mexico’s Primera Division of Liga MX as its coach Wednesday.
Known as “El Chelis,” Sanchez Sola says he wants to implement a more appealing style of play for the team’s fans. He has six years of head coaching experience in Mexico’s Primera Division. The 53-year-old coach never played professional soccer.
He coached Correcaminos UAT this year and Estudiantes de la UAG in the 2011 Clausura season. He coached Puebla from 2006-10, leading the team to Interliga, Superliga and Bicentenario tournaments.
Sanchez Sola replaces Robin Fraser, who was fired last month along with three other staffers. Chivas USA finished last in the Western Conference this season with a 7-18-9 record.
