Detectives Probe Death Of Infant Found In Trash At Industry Recycling Facility

CITY OF INDUSTRY (CBSLA.com) — Detectives are investigating the death of a newborn found dead at a recycling facility in the City of Industry.

The body of a baby girl was discovered just before 2 p.m. Monday by an employee at Athens Disposal Company in the 1400 block of Valley Boulevard, said Deputy Kim Manatt of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reports a worker found the infant while sorting trash on a conveyor belt.

"The baby was deceased, but looked to be full term and in good health," Manatt said.

The trash the baby was found in had been collected Monday from various municipalities around the San Gabriel Valley and brought to the facility, Manatt said.

An autopsy on the infant is pending which will determine if the child was stillborn or if she died after birth.

Detectives ask anyone with information about a woman who may have been pregnant within the last week, but is not in possession of a baby, to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
