LA Native Murdered In Broad Daylight In New York City

LADERA HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A 31-year-old Los Angeles man was murdered in broad daylight in New York City Monday afternoon.

Brandon Woodard was walking on West 58th Street in midtown Manhattan when he was shot in the back of the head by an unidentified assailant.

"One loud shot. We were all standing right here and we were all scared to death," said witness Benny Harris.

Witnesses said the shooter calmly walked a few feet and then got into a waiting Lincoln Town Car.

Woodard's family wants to know how no one saw the license plate of the vehicle or the shooter.

"No one saw the person who did it. Whoever did it…he was a ghost," a man told CBS2 New York.

Harris said, "It was like the guy never existed. Whoever did it, got away clean."

Woodard's father, who lives in Maryland, said he hadn't spoken to his son, who had previous run-ins with the law, for some time.

"Shocked and saddened. I'm still shocked. It's like it can't happen to me," said J. Lincoln Woodard.

KCAL9's Serene Branson said the victim's family in Los Angeles is too upset to speak out.

NYPD officials said they're examining security video in the area.
