Woman Shot While Fleeing Man In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A woman was shot and wounded by a man chasing her in Santa Monica, police reported Sunday.

The incident occurred near Santa Monica College at about 5 p.m. Saturday.

The alleged shooter was arrested, police said. The victim is reportedly not cooperating in the investigation.

The assault began when the woman frantically flagged down a vehicle while being chased by the suspect in the 1800 block of Pico Boulevard, Sgt. Richard Lewis said.

"A car stopped, she gets in and just as the vehicle is driving away, a gunman walks up and fires several shots into the car. The woman was wounded, but the motorist escaped injury," he said.

The driver took her to Pico and Lincoln boulevards, where they called for help, Lewis said.

"Other calls came in, when the shooting occurred," Lewis said. "We did a perimeter and the suspect was caught about an hour and a half later, trying to leave the crime in a vehicle."

Officials surrounded the area and found the suspect in a vehicle an hour and a half later. Investigators also recovered the gun allegedly used in the attack.

The alleged gunman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Lewis would not disclose the suspect's name.
