CSU San Bernardino Student, 38, Fatally Shot Following Confrontation With Campus Police

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A 38-year-old CSU San Bernardino student was fatally shot Saturday after getting into a physical confrontation with campus police.

Campus police responded to a disturbance call at an off-campus dorm in the University Village student housing  just before 7 p.m.

According to campus police, two officers got into a physical confrontation with an undergraduate student, described as a 38-year-old black male.

The man fought with both officers, injuring one of them.

Both of the officers fired saying they feared for their safety.

The suspect was hit in the upper torso. It was unclear how many times the suspect was shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the campus police.

According to Lieutenant Paul Williams of the San Bernardino Police Department, the injured campus officer was reportedly taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. He was not injured by gunfire and he described the officer's injuries as non-life threatening.
