Sheriff's Captain Critically Injured After Car Crash In Castaic

CASTAIC (CBSLA.com) — An off-duty sheriff's captain was suffering from critical injuries Saturday after her car drifted into opposing traffic and crashed head-on into another vehicle in Castaic.

Carrie Stuart, 47, crashed her car on San Francisquito Canyon Road, north of Stator Lane, around 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was driving a 2009 Ford southbound when her car drifted into the northbound lane hitting a 2010 Acura.

The driver of the Acura, a 38-year-old man from Elizabeth Lake, suffered moderate injuries.

Stuart, mother of four, serves as the unit commander of the Pitchess Detention Center's South Facility in the Santa Clarita Valley, officials said.

Both drivers are being treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
