GARDENA (CBSLA.com) — A driver plowed into a 19-year-old pedestrian Thursday and then fled the scene, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The man was fatally struck at 5:30 p.m. on El Segundo Boulevard near Vermont Avenue, authorities said.

Witnesses told investigators that three men ran from the scene after the collision. It was unclear if they were linked to the crash.

Hours later, the CHP continued to investigate the crash site.
