Caught On Camera: Man Allegedly Steals Plaques From Menifee Mortuary
MENIFEE (CBSLA.com) — The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is looking for the man who allegedly stole plaques and statues from a mortuary in Menifee.
The crime happened at Miller-Jones Mortuary and Cemetery.
The suspect, who was seen on security camera video using a crowbar to get a plaque off the wall, has reportedly vandalized the location for the past three weekends.
Jaeger Jones, who works at the funeral home, said 50 bronze plaques and two statues have been taken so far.
He said the dollar amount to replace the stolen items is huge.
"Thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars," said Jones.
Francine Hill, who visits her husband every year on his birthday, is in disbelief that somebody would take things from the mortuary.
"I think it's pretty low. When they have to stoop that low, it's just not right," she said.
Jones said he plans to replace the bronze items with something else.
"Change the material to something that is durable and pretty and the families will love, but it's not valuable for somebody to take," he said.
