SOUTH PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles woman has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after her minivan plowed into a South Pasadena home.
No one was injured in the accident which took place in the 1700 block of Alhambra Road about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to authorities, the vehicle plowed into the home leaving a 10-foot-wide hole from the floor to the ceiling. The alleged driver was identified by South Pasadena police as 24-year-old Veronica Villanueva.
“Actually, I thought it was an earthquake. So I jump up and then smoke is filled in the house and I’m screaming, ‘Fire! Fire!’ to wake up all the kids… and little did I know it was a van right in the middle of my front room,” Carmen Gillespie, the homeowner, told CBS2′s Art Barron.
Gillespie says the accident happened in an area where her 13-year-old Nathan does his homework. Fortunately, he was asleep in another room at the time.
According to Barron, nine family members have been displaced.
