Police: Torrance Man Dragged On Hood Of Car For Miles In Deadly Crash

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — A suspected drunk driver has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following a deadly crash in the city of Torrance.

Torrance police said in a department statement that the vehicle was traveling west on Torrance Boulevard at Madrid when it struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street.

According to police, the vehicle traveled over two miles with the victim hanging on the hood.

"After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle continued driving with the pedestrian on the hood of vehicle until the vehicle was forced to stop by concerned citizens," Torrance police Lt. Mark Athan told KNX 1070's Ed Mertz.

Officers arrived on scene about 11:23 p.m. Saturday and found the victim, identified as 31-year-old Phillip Moreno of Torrance, in critical condition.

He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The alleged driver was identified as 51-year-old Sherri Wilkins of Torrance.

Wilkins was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and manslaughter.
