Burglars Nab $10,000 Worth Of Bags From Dooney & Bourke Warehouse

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said thieves made off with approximately $10,000 worth of purses from a Dooney & Bourke warehouse in Fontana.

Police said the thieves cut power to the warehouse before breaking in and swiping 20 boxes of the pricey handbags.

A Dooney & Bourke bag retails for as much as $500.

"When you find them stealing a lot of one item it's usually because they're going to go out there and resell them at a thrift store, a pawn shop, a swap meet, anything like that," Sgt. Robert Morris said.

The sergeant said thieves typically put their loot for sale on eBay or Craigslist.

The manager of the Dooney & Bourke distribution center said he thinks the suspects were a team of professional burglars.

Although power was cut, security cameras caught footage of the suspects. The center manager did not yet want to release the video.

Fontana police urged people to call them if they see an unauthorized retailer selling new Dooney & Bourke handbags. They also said that if a deal on a designer item appears too good to be true it probably is: the item is likely stolen or counterfeit.
