BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — We’re not in Kansas anymore!
The simple blue and white, gingham dress worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz” was auctioned yesterday in Beverly Hills. And the amount would made your house twitch.
An anonymous collector paid $20K shy of $500,000 for the famous frock, according to Julien’s Auctions.
A wide variety of Hollywood memorabilia was sold at the auction. Clothes worn by Marilyn Monroe ($93,750), a Steve McQueen racing jacket ($50,000) and a dress worn by Julie Andrews in “The Sound of Music” ($38,400) were other notable big screen items.
A black gown worn by Jaclyn Smith on “Charlie’s Angels” was sold for $15,000.
A slice of Kate and William’s wedding cake reportedly sold for $1,375. And if you have to ask Kate and William who?, you probably aren’t able to afford $1,375 for a piece of their cake.
