HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — One person has been wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Hawthorne.

The incident happened in front of a senior housing facility in the 13000 block of Doty Avenue about 10:13 a.m. Saturday.

A news release issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says no deputies were shot.

Police said they were patrolling the area of Yukon and 132nd Street when they attempted to pull the suspect over for traffic violations.

When the suspect failed to yield, a 4-minute car chase ensued. After the suspect bailed, officers chased him on foot. During the foot pursuit, officers said the suspect aimed a handgun at them.

Authorities said that even after being shot in the leg, the suspect ran a short distance before collapsing.

Officials say a handgun was recovered at the scene.

One officer was reportedly injured in a fall during the foot pursuit. The officer sustained a cut over the eye which required stitches at a local hospital.
