LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Democratic Representative Brad Sherman of Valley Village has defeated Rep. Howard Berman to represent the San Fernando Valley in Congress.
Berman, of Sherman Oaks, conceded the election early Wednesday morning in a statement.
“Brad Sherman will be the next Congressman from the 30th Congressional District. I congratulate Brad and my friend Tony Cardenas who will have the honor and solemn responsibility of representing the San Fernando Valley in the 113th Congress,” he said. “I wish both of them the best of luck and the wisdom and strength to confront and overcome the challenges that face our nation. I will do whatever I can to ensure a cooperative and orderly transition.”
Sherman, who will represent the 30th Congressional District, won the race with 60.4 percent of the vote, according to officials numbers from the California Secretary of State.
Berman won 39.6 percent of the vote.
The two men were pitted against each other because of California’s new primary system, which sends the top two finishers to the general election regardless of party affiliation.
