South LA Girl Found Safe Following Statewide Amber Alert

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A statewide Amber Alert for a 7-year-old South Los Angeles girl ended Sunday with a suspect in custody.

The alert for Katherine Perez was issued late Saturday night after the child was reported abducted from her home, allegedly by her father, Jose Perez.

The senior Perez allegedly took the child after a physical altercation ensued between him and the child's mother. The incident occurred about 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

She was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment but is expected to be released later in the day.

Police say the suspect was apprehended at his home about 6:25 a.m. nearly nine hours after the alert was issued. They had reportedly been checking his home throughout the night.

"We had an address over in the Rampart Division where we knew we resided in. We've been checking it throughout the night in case he'd come home. He hadn't come home all night long," said Sgt. Douglas Bowler of the Los Angeles Police Department.

"We're due to get off shortly so the unit went back to do one more check. They found the vehicle there and they located him in the house," said Sgt. Douglas Bowler of the Los Angeles Police Department. He's in custody and the little girl is fine," said Bowler.
