LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police say a 37-year-old man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Long Beach early Sunday morning.
Police announced Sunday that a suspect was taken into custody at 1 p.m. The suspect is identified as 48-year-old Robert Alleman of Long Beach.
The accident occurred about 12:45 when the victim attempted to cross the Pacific Coast Highway at Junipero Street. The victim was not in the crosswalk at the time he was struck.
Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said the victim died at the scene.
The deceased, now identified as 37-year-old Adolfo Lopez-Perez of Long Beach, was reportedly struck by a 1997 green Geo Prism. The car was reportedly later found abandoned nearby.
Detectives are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.
Alleman was booked for vehicular manslaughter and is being held at Long Beach City Jail on $50,000 bail.
