Woman, 71, Found Stabbed To Death In Bed

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A 71-year-old woman was found stabbed to death in her bed causing shock throughout her neighborhood in Santa Ana.

The murder happened in the 700 block of South Orange Street.

CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Carter Evans spoke to stunned neighbors.

He also reported police have detained a "person of interest."

Police said they got a 911 call around 3:30 p.m. from a man inside the home.

They didn't release the victim's name but neighbors said the couple who live here used to be married.

The couple was separated for a time but the wife recently returned to the residence.

Said a neighbor named Brian, "She came back to be with him. I Guess to help him out. He was a lonely guy and I guess she came back, she has a good heart."

The couple was not known to argue, but this afternoon witnesses told Evans they saw the husband being led from the home.

Fernando Esquibel, "We saw them taking a guy from the house with the police officer and that's when we said something happened in the house."

Corp. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police, "At this point, he's a person of interest that we're questioning."

Investigators believe they have recovered the murder weapon. And they told residents to rest easy. They don't believe a murderer is on the loose.

Said Bertagna, "I believe there is evidence in the room that leads them to believe this is contained inside the house."

Police also told Evans while the person they were questioning was a "person of interest" and not a suspect, an arrest could be imminent.
