Pursuit Suspect Apprehended After Running Into South LA Church
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —A young suspect—possibly a minor—was taken into custody Friday following a police chase that ended in a crash near a South Los Angeles church.
The pursuit, which involved a stolen Honda Accord, started on the northbound 110 freeway and ended near Grace Lutheran Church at Menlo and West Vernon avenues.
“This was a stolen vehicle that refused to yield for the Sheriff’s Department,” reported Sky9’s Stu Mundel. “It crashed into some parked cars.”
According to authorities, the suspected driver then fled into the church, which interrupted a Bible study meeting.
Witness Oscar Becerra said, “Suddenly, a little kid ran inside the church. And then a lot of cops came behind him.”
The suspect, who was taken to the hospital, appeared to be about 14 years old, according to witnesses.
