LA Councilman Involved In Boyle Heights Car Crash

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) —The Los Angeles Police Department Thursday was investigating a car accident in Boyle Heights involving Councilman Jose Huizar.

The crash, which may have involved three vehicles, happened at 6:45 p.m. near First Street and Boyle Avenue.

Huizar was detained for a possible DUI and given a breathalyzer test, which he passed, according to police.

No charges were filed.

Another person was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Rick Coca, Huizar's communications director, released a statement Thursday night regarding the councilman's involvement in the incident:

"Councilmember Huizar was involved in a minor traffic accident this evening near First and Boyle near his home in Boyle Heights. LAPD gave the councilmember a DUI sobriety test, which of course he passed. The councilmember is glad that nobody was seriously injured."

Huizar represents the 14th District, which includes Boyle Heights, downtown Los Angeles, Eagle Rock, and Highland Park.
