SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating an explosion at an apartment in Canyon Country Wednesday.

Investigators say a man was in the bathroom, trying to extract oil from marijuana plants, when something exploded.

The force of the blast sent him into a wall 10 feet away, and knocked out the wall to the adjacent apartment. The man fled the scene.

The explosion allegedly occurred when the man lit a cigarette.

The man was later admitted to the hospital and was being treated for second-degree burns.

No further information was released.
