COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A 24-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday while sitting in a car with another man and a 10-month-old baby in Compton.

The gunman walked up to the car in the 2100 block of Wilmington Avenue and opened fire just after 4:30 p.m., officials said.

Charley Ford, an up-and-coming skateboarder, suffered several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities said the baby and the other man were not injured.

Ford participated in events organized by ASK Long Beach, which stands for Action Sports Kids, that encourages kids to use skate parks as a safe place.
