LAKE ELSINORE (CBSLA.com) — An occupant of a vehicle that plunged several hundred feet off the Ortega Highway has been hospitalized, a fire spokeswoman said Saturday.

Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson says the solo-vehicle accident was reported at 10:29 p.m. Friday near The Lookout Roadhouse restaurant.

According to Hendrickson, firefighters freed the victim from the wreckage shortly before midnight. That person was transported to an area hospital for unspecified injuries.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
