Retired Firefighter Finds Bodies Of Man, Woman Who Rented From Him

NEWHALL (CBSLA.com) — A man and a woman were found dead Monday in a Santa Clarita neighborhood, authorities reported.

Investigators were called to a house on the 24000 block of Heritage Lane at around 5:30 p.m.

Santa Clarita Sheriff's detectives said the circumstances surrounding the deaths were suspicious.

The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Leo Miller, a retired firefighter, owns the home and said the victims were his tenants.

The man had been renting a guest suite in the home for the past three years and his girlfriend had recently moved in, Miller said.

The couple was known to have loud arguments late at night.

"They were known to argue -- screaming and yelling late at night...I don't know what was going on, but there were some issues," Miller said.

Miller said he was in the process of evicting them after allegedly finding evidence of drug use.

He hadn't heard from the couple in several days and became concerned. He used his keys to enter the victims' home and found them on the floor. Miller said he saw no signs of physical trauma.

"We've been friends for three years, and I don't know what happened with him and her, but [detectives will] investigate and find out," Miller said.

Authorities did not release the victims' identities. A cause of death has not been determined.
