NoHo Police, City Leaders Send Powerful Message To Criminals

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — North Hollywood police and city leaders came out in full force on Wednesday to send a powerful message to thieves—stay home.

"Those who come to this community to try to take advantage of others aren't going to succeed at doing that," said Los Angeles councilman Paul Krekorian.

Although the area has been thriving with new business, a vibrant nightlife, and an expanding arts district, property thefts have gone up 20 percent.

The Los Angeles Police Department said thieves are targeting cars, bikes and other accessible personal property.

Some criminals are even bold enough to take from businesses like 24 Hour Fitness on Lankershim Boulevard, which has seen incidents on a weekly basis.

Police said they will stop at nothing to combat the rash of thefts.

"We're going to be watching. Sometimes you'll see us, sometimes you won't, but we're going to be watching at all times, 24 hours a day, seven days a week," said Lt. Alan Hamilton.

The LAPD's motto for residents is:

  1. Lock your vehicle.
  2. Hide your valuables.
  3. Keep your property.
