Actress Stacey Dash Target Of Racial Backlash On Twitter After Endorsing Mitt Romney

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — While President Barack Obama can count a good majority of Hollywood's players as supporters, at least one actress has publicly thrown her support behind Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney – and that has earned her both scorn and support on Twitter.

"Clueless" actress Stacey Dash has been reviled by both Democrats and blacks on Twitter since Sunday, when she tweeted, "Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future. @mittromney @teamromney #mittromney #VOTE #voteromney." The tweet is accompanied by a photo of Dash in a Baywatch-style red bathing suit posing in front of an American flag.

Tweets directed at her immediately after her endorsement referenced her race, her role in Clueless and suggestions that Dash kill herself. Many of the tweets included racial slurs.

Shortly after her endorsement, Dash tweeted that it was simply her opinion.

However, not all of the reaction to Dash's tweet has been critical. Conservatives on Twitter have thrown their support behind the actress, creating the hashtag #ISupportStaceyDash. Women's rights activist Sandra Fluke also tweeted her support of Dash's right to her opinion.
