At Least 30 Cars Catch Fire At San Fernando Valley Recycling Yard

SUN VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters Saturday were able to knock down a blaze at a recycling yard in an industrial area of eastern San Fernando Valley.

At least 30 junked cars and trucks caught fire in the blaze, which was reported just before 9:30 a.m., in the 12200 block of Branford Street.

Firefighters at the scene reported that employees at the business used a forklift and other heavy equipment to create firebreaks while fire crews worked carefully around electrical wires which had fallen on a metal fence.

Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said it took 79 firefighters about 39 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
