RANCHO PALOS VERDES (CBSLA.com) — Her name is Calamity Jane, but the true calamity is that someone shot this horse 58 times with a BB gun.
The horse, initially, was not expected to survive.
But as CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Rob Schmitt reports, one woman was determined that Calamity Jane would live.
Stacey Cohen says a lot of people have come together in the community to help Calamity Jane, a 10-year-old mare.
Says Cohen, “Something about her story just drew me.”
She found a vet, Dr. Larry Kelly, willing to do the delicate surgery for free.
Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. Beams Cohen, “So many people have wanted to help her. It took all these people to come together. That’s what the miracle was.”
Calamity Jane was discovered in August by the ASPCA, reportedly neglected by her owner. Her pellet wounds still have not completely healed.
